Porter - Yoshida & Co.
Yoshida & Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer that has been designing and producing bags that pre-date the second world war. Founded by Kichizo Yoshida, PORTER is one of the many brands that fall under the Yoshida & Co. umbrella. It was launched as a private label in 1962, focusing on connecting customers with the manufacturer of their product, providing more transparency on production methods, materials and design processes.
One of the most pivotal moments in the Porter brand history, was the release of their Tanker series. Inspired by a fabric adopted by the U.S. military and used for the production of their MA-1 flight jackets, Yoshida & Co. repurposed this hardwearing, yet lightweight material in the form of what they know best - bags and travel goods. The three-layer nylon fabric and the colours it is produced in remains virtually unchanged since its initial release. Where Porter have broken ground is in the versatile range of sizes and styles that they offer, a range unrivalled by almost any other manufacturer.
