14oz Type III Denim Jacket - Black
Constructed from a Memphis cotton 14oz selvedge denim that is woven in the Ihara district of Shizouka, Japan. This small rural region to the west of Tokyo is famed for its production of high quality, unique fabrics, and more notably its production of denim.
Calee opts for a regular fitting traditional Type III silhouette on their denim jacket this season which is finished to the usual high standard we have come to expect from the Tokyo based label. Features include branded nickel buttons, tonal twin needle stitching, adjustable side cinches, button-down chest pockets and the modern traditional addition of slash-cut hand pockets.
The fabric itself is woven on vintage power looms that predate the second world war. Access to these looms is becoming increasingly limited and the weaving rate in comparison to their modern equivalent takes a far greater time. In addition, the looms require specialist engineers with decades of experience who know how to efficiently keep production flowing. Switching to a modern loom would seem the most logical answer to all the potential problems, but there is one key detail that drives these old, timeless and iconic looms to stay in production, and that is the final product where the visual characteristics and “wabi-sabi” inconsistencies make for a truly unique garment.
